Earlier this year, Google introduced the AI-powered research assistant NotebookLM, capable of summarizing and organizing documents. Its latest update, called Audio overview, converts documents into audio discussions. Instead of simply reading text summaries, the tool creates interactive discussions between two AI hosts who explain the content, establish connections between topics, and even incorporate humor. It utilizes Google’s Gemini AI models to enhance the complex documents with audio AI.
Users can upload various sources such as research notes and corporate documents, and the AI generates podcast-style overviews. It supports text, images, and charts due to its multimodal capabilities. It is pitched as a tool to help people digest complex information easily. However, it’s still in the experimental stage, with limitations such as supporting only English and occasionally presenting inaccuracies. Initially available solely in the U.S., the tool has now broadened its reach to over 200 countries.
